About Surge
SMS and voice APIs that make it easier to build, register, and launch.

What Surge does
Everything you need to add communications to an app, with less time spent on the setup around them.
SMS and voice APIs
Add SMS, MMS, and voice to your application. Send one-time passcodes, build customer conversations, or add calling without building communications infrastructure yourself.
Carrier registration
Register 10DLC campaigns or verify toll-free numbers with a straightforward process. Surge helps you navigate the carrier requirements between signup and production SMS.
Embeddable messaging
Add a messaging inbox to your product with ready-to-use components. Vertical SaaS platforms can give their customers messaging tools and manage registration for each business they serve.
What makes Surge different
We built the communications platform we wanted to use: quick to adopt, straightforward to manage, and backed by a team that knows carrier registration.
01
Registration measured in hours
Across Surge's 100 most recent campaigns of each type as of September 2026, the median time to approval was 25.2 hours for 10DLC and 49.2 hours for toll-free. Carrier review times can vary.
02
Clear answers when registration needs changes
If a carrier flags an issue with your registration, we tell you exactly what needs to change. You get actionable guidance instead of an opaque rejection code to decipher on your own.
03
A simpler path from signup to sending
Try SMS with a demo number, then choose a number and complete registration when you're ready for production. Our dashboard and APIs keep each step clear.
04
Components you can embed
Ready-to-use components help teams add a messaging experience to their apps in minutes instead of building one from scratch. They are especially useful for vertical SaaS products serving many customers.
05
Built for platforms with many customers
Each business on a vertical SaaS platform may need its own carrier registration. Surge makes that recurring task easier to manage as the platform grows.
06
Support from people who know SMS
Reach our team through email or in-app chat when you need help with setup or registration. We work to resolve questions quickly, especially when carrier requirements get complicated.

The team behind Surge
Surge started with a practical problem. In early 2024, Dennis Beatty was building a CRM for small gyms and a communications tool for hearing implant specialists. Both needed messaging, and his earlier work with SMS had shown him how difficult it was to add well.
On a drive from California to Utah, Dennis had the idea for embeddable messaging for vertical SaaS. When another platform offered to pay him to build an SMS inbox, he persuaded them to become Surge’s first customer instead. With a paying customer in place, Brett Beatty left his job building VoIP systems for small businesses to join Dennis as co-founder.
The founders joined Y Combinator’s Fall 2024 batch. There, they saw a broader need: developers everywhere were struggling with SMS setup and carrier registration. They expanded Surge into a developer-focused SMS and voice platform while continuing to serve vertical SaaS companies. Today, the growing team works together in Lehi, Utah.
